How it works:
A digital sound file is passed from one artist the the next. The artists edit or add to the song however they wish, to create a new song, as long as an audible connection to the previous evolution can be heard.
The artists do not hear any of the evolutions that came before their source song so they're not affected by how previous artists have decided to deal with the song.

Each version of the song stands alone as it's own unique sound piece, but when the evolutions are heard in chronological order, musical themes can be heard surviving from one song to the next, often lasting throughout many evolutions of the song.
